英国国民医疗保健署血液和移植司(NHSBT)近期出台了一项提案，旨在把纽卡斯尔、利兹、谢菲尔德、伯明翰、南安普敦、剑桥、伦敦南部和布伦特伍德等8个地区的血液中心现有的血液加工和检验流程全部撤销，集中合并至伦敦北部、布里斯托和曼彻斯特等三个地区的血液中心。

      由于此项提案可能会导致在全国范围内削减600个采供血和移植相关的工作岗位并且关闭10个血液加工场所中的7个，因此造成了数百名血液和移植司的工会成员对此提出抗议。
  
      NHSBT要求负责人Clive Ronaldson同意对这项颇受争议重组战略计划进行全面评估。这一举措受到了NHSBT团体工会(UNISON)的欢迎。

Plan to axe blood and transplant jobs to be reviewed

      Controversial proposals by the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) board to axe 600 jobs and close seven of the 10 processing sites across England could be halted if the board’s interim managing director agrees to review its reconfiguration strategy.

      The board is set to ask Clive Ronaldson, to carry out an overarching review of the proposed reconfiguration strategy in a move that has been welcomed by UNISON, the union representing NHSBT workers.

      Previously, hundreds of trade union members working at (NHSBT) service have protested over the plans.

      The move was set to see processing and testing operations withdrawn from blood centres in Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Southampton, Cambridge, South London and Brentwood and centralised in three centres in North London, Bristol and Manchester.

      Bill Campbell, staff side secretary and UNISON’s national officer for the NHSBT, said: “The unions have put forward well researched and robust arguments why the current proposals to cut jobs and close centres should not go ahead.

      “This review makes good sense and will give stakeholders, including the regulator, the Department of Health, trusts, staff and unions a fresh opportunity to make their views known and influence the eventual outcome.”

      “Our prime concern is to ensure that any changes deliver a high quality blood service and do not put lives at risk.”
