Summary of the series of activities for WBDD 2013 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

    To celebrate the 10th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day(WBDD) on 14 June 2013, to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to encourage more people to donate blood, Shanghai Blood Center launched special columns and a series of activities around the theme of “Give the gift of life: donate blood”, in cooperation with the television, radio, newspapers, magazines and other media. These campaigns focused on the value of donated blood to the patient, not only in saving lives, but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.

Theme campaign

    The theme campaign on World Blood Donor Day with the theme of “Give the gift of life: donate blood” was held on 14 June 2013 in People’s Park, which located near Nanjing Road, a famous street in Shanghai. Volunteers from many countries and famous artists collected affection signatures from 614 pedestrians on site. Under the recruitment of the volunteers, many people donated blood in the transparent donation house, built by Shanghai Blood Center, to show their support to the blood donation.

1.“Warm Love for Shanghai——the Gift of Life from India”—One hundred Indians donate blood to celebrate WBDD 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

    To celebrate the 10th World Blood Donor Day, to give the gifts to patients in Shanghai, the voluntary unpaid blood donation drive from Indian residents, with the theme of “Warm Love for Shanghai——the Gift of Life from India” was held by Shanghai Blood Center on Jun 15th.More than one hundred Indians participated in this activity and 82 Indians successfully donated blood on that day, collecting totally 114 units of blood. So far, Indian is the country where there is the most people donating blood from one country in one blood donation drive in Shanghai.

Mr. Naveen Srivastava, India Consul General in Shanghai and Mr.Amit Waikar president of Indian Association were invited to this event. On the welcome ceremony, Mr. Zhu Yongming, director of Shanghai Blood Center welcomed everybody and declaimed the famous India poet Tagore’s poem, to express the deep relationship between the people of China and India.
    Subsequently, Mr. Naveen Srivastava visited Shanghai Blood Center accompanied by Mr. Zhu Yongming to better understand the history of the development of blood donation in Shanghai.

    About one hundred foreign friends gathered in Oriental Land, a famous large park in Shanghai, participating in the blood donation on May 26th.They had performed colorful programs to celebrate that day on the scene.

    Voluntary unpaid blood donation event with the theme of “IT elites——present your arm for love” was held on May 11th by Shanghai Blood Center jointly with Shanghai Informatization Youth Talent Association and touch media. The event had attached many young people in IT companies in Shanghai including senior management personnel.

    The staffs and sales agents of Fresenius Kabi and Haemonetics Corporation from Shanghai, Guangzhou Province and Chengdu Province donated blood component respectively on May 4th and May 20th. It embodied the highly social responsibility of two companies by blood donation.

5.To meet WBDD——Ningbo voluntary blood donors came to Shanghai to donate blood component 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

    When the Chinese traditional festival, the Dragon Boat Festival was coming, 101 volunteers under the lead of captain Zheng Shiming came to Shanghai, 250 kilometers away from Zhejiang Province, to donate blood component on Jun 10th. 76 donors had successfully donated 112 units of platelet and 5 units of whole blood after examination, which gave the gift to the upcoming World Blood Donor Day.
